Our revival of Michael Ching's "Speed Dating Tonight!" performed by invitation at the National Opera Association's annual conference. Celebrated for its imaginative and bold concept and stellar vocals. The productions remount continued for public performance in a special Valentine's day run.Â

Two Centuries of Glory

A two part celebratory concert celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Bunker Hill Monument Cornerstone Laying. General Lafayette, Daniel Webster, and worthies of today offer and acknowledge seventeen toasts to lofty and still-relevant ideals in a reenactment performance. The ceremonial performance opened the day at the Bunker Hill Monument, and continued at Old South Meeting House later that evening.

Through Opera Connect, Dee Opera’s education initiative, high school students participated in a multi-day, immersive exploration of opera and the performing arts. The experience began with two in-school rehearsals led by Dee Opera’s Music Director, preparing students for a full day of musical discovery and collaboration.
Students experienced a private recital featuring four Dee Opera vocalists, engaged in a Q&A with professional musicians, received sectional coaching, and rehearsed operatic repertoire alongside Dee Opera artists. The experience culminated in a public performance, bringing students and professional musicians together on stage in a shared celebration of music, artistry, and human connection.

1830: A Historic Lieder Concert
Presented at New Dawn Arts Center, this recital offered an immersive encounter with nineteenth-century art song through historically informed performance. At its center was an authentic 1830 Tröndlin fortepiano, originally built in Leipzig and generously provided by the Frederick Historical Piano Collection. Paired with vocal performances informed by the instrument’s historical context, the program brought audiences closer to the sound world of the era, illuminating the relationship between voice, piano, and musical interpretation as composers of the period would have known it.

Speed Dating Tonight!
Dee Opera launched its artistic journey with its inaugural performance of Michael Ching’s contemporary comic opera Speed Dating Tonight! to life in an unconventional after-hours setting at Rockwell, transforming the venue into a lively meeting place for music, humor, and modern romance. Through a series of quirky encounters and candid confessions, the production explored the awkwardness, anticipation, and absurdity of searching for connection. Blending operatic storytelling with the atmosphere of a contemporary social scene, the performance invited audiences to experience opera in a fresh, intimate, and unexpected way.
